Technical Leader – System Wide Information Management

Job Description:
Provide engineering expertise to the FAA System Wide Information Management (SWIM) programs.

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Coordinate Cavan Solutions’ engineering support to SWIM
    • Work closely with the program office, development organization, stakeholders, and users
    • Evaluate stakeholder requirements and ensure alignment of system design, implementation, and deployment
    • Manage communication of new functionality impact to service consumers and interface systems
    • Develop transition plans for existing service consumers impacted by changes to existing functionality
    • Monitor modifications of stakeholder systems, assess impact, and advise program management on integration approaches and risk mitigation strategies
    • Lead Configuration Management (CM) Support – Perform the program office’s CM activities such as the In-Service Review checklist, NAS Change Proposals, NAS Data Release Board process, Operational Integration Board process, and Safety Risk Management process
    • Documentation Support – Develop and review release notes, site availability file, and requirements documents
    • User Support – Provide 3rd level engineering support to users as needed
    • Develop, review, and validate operational concepts; perform functional analysis
    • Project Reporting – Perform regular (weekly/monthly) and ad-hoc program reporting to the FAA including project accomplishments, schedules, and levels of effort
    • Program Support – Host/coordinate weekly team meetings and track action items, develop program briefings, manage website content, manage user communication, and manage NSRR (SWIM governance) content.


    • US Citizenship required
    • Washington, DC based
    • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
    • Experience supporting the FAA/NAS Systems; experience with and operational knowledge of SWIM services highly desired
    • Experience supporting engineering projects; familiarity with the Engineering lifecycle
    • Experience with FAA Enterprise Architecture artifacts and Configuration Management processes preferred
    • Experience allocating, developing, and maintaining requirements. Development of FAA standardized requirements documentation (e.g., SSD, WSRD, IRD, ICD) preferred
    • Detail oriented, independent, self-motivated, and a proactive team member
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills effective with operational, technical, and senior management audiences
    • Leadership experience preferred


    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, operations research, mathematics, or physics, and/or similar experience


    • Project related travel, trade shows, and technical conferences as required
